Adopting from ZenCat Lounge
Our Mission: A better life for rescued cats
Our mission as a temporary home for stray and surrendered cats is to increase the number of permanent adoption placements for these precious animals. Far too often, cats adopted from shelters are chosen purely by their looks, and then brought back a few weeks later when their personality doesn’t match the new owner’s expectations. Every change of environment is very stressful for a cat, sometimes even traumatic.
We want to prevent this and the sadness & guilt that people feel when they have to return a pet. Each cat has a unique personality and temperament, just like humans. By spending time with a cat in a home-like environment like ours, you get to see how the cat interacts with you, their energy level, and how affectionate they are. You’ll have a much better sense of which cat is the best one for you and your family. You can then adopt with confidence. All of our cats are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and tested for FIV and feline leukemia. Many are also microchipped.
After spending time with our cats, if you feel a connection with one (or two!), ask us for an application. You can fill it out right away or take it home and bring it back at your convenience. We foster from multiple rescue partners and each one sets the adoption fee for their cats. The fees range from $80-$130 for a single adult, $150-$250 for a bonded pair, and $75-$125 for a kitten. After you turn in your application, we and/or the rescue partner will review it, chat with you about the cat(s) you’re interested in to make sure it’s a good match, and either approve or deny your application. Most rescue partners allow us to approve adoptions the same day you visit.
Once an application has been approved for a cat, we will stop accepting applications for him/her. If the adoption fee is not paid within 3 days of approval, we will resume accepting applications and the cat will be adopted to the first approved applicant who pays the fee.
When you’re ready to bring home your new family member, you MUST bring a carrier to transport him/her. For safety we can only allow cats to leave in a carrier. You will also receive a day’s worth of dry food; the blanket your cat slept on at night (if they use one); your cat’s vet records, shelter records (if applicable), and microchip information (if applicable); and handouts with helpful information about getting your cat settled into its new home.
Note: Cats fostered from Cats In Tow have a different adoption process.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to pay the admission fee if I’m only interested in adopting and just want to take a look? Yes. In order to follow our mission, we cannot adopt out a cat to someone who won’t spend at least 30 minutes meeting and interacting with the cats. If you choose to adopt one of our cats and your application is approved, your paid admission will be deducted from the adoption fee. We encourage potential adopters to look at our online gallery before visiting to see and read about our cats.
Is it possible for my children under age 12 to meet a cat before I adopt? Yes, we prefer that they do! Once your application has been approved, we can reserve a time for your family to come in for a meet & greet.
